Are you prepared for a neighborhood evacuation?  With the fire danger at an extreme high and Level 2 fire restrictions in place in the Vail Valley, we want to make sure you have this check list for an “ideal” evacuation situation.  The last thing you want is 2 minutes to evacuate and end up in your car with your family and pets and nothing else.

A few tips… During an emergency such as a wildfire, it is very possible for cell towers to cease to function, so have a meeting place set up with your family so everyone knows to go there.  Keep in touch with your neighbors, friends and family so that First Responders know you are safe.  Keep walkie-talkies in your emergency bag, and have a go-to land line location established in case your cell isn’t working.

Another tip is to make sure your drivers license address matches with your home address.  We’ve heard this is the main way evacuees were allowed to re-enter areas that had been closed.  If your drivers license has an old address, update it.  It will eliminate quite a bit of paperwork when closed areas open back up.
