Whether you live in the Vail Valley or are here for a visit, don’t miss out on some of these great events and outings to take part in with your kiddos. With all the snow we’ve received so far in 2017, on-mountain adventures are a must. Get out in the SNOW with those kids! But there are also some fun indoor happenings this month to take part in (just in case it’s in those negative temps again). Here are some ideas for you to do with the kiddos in January.
Beaver Creek Thursday Night Lights
FREE event every Thursday
Time: 5:30 registration, 6 or 7 PM
A glow stick ski-down set to music with a grand fireworks finale! Open to intermediate and above level skiers and riders. Register at Children’s Ski & Snowboard School. Please call (970)754-5464 for times. Equipment Needed: Ski or snowboard gear
Special Requirements: Level 5+ skiers or boarders. Waiver signed by parent or guardian.
Adventure Ridge Vail
The kids will have a blast playing in the afternoon and well into the night at Adventure Ridge in Vail with ski bikes, kids snowmobile track, snowshoeing, tubing lanes and more. Located at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola, Adventure Ridge is a snow park the size of a football stadium, complete with family food favorites like Bistro Fourteen. The Eagle Bahn Gondola runs from breakfast till night. Drink hot chocolate and watch the sun set over the bowls.
A few things to know before heading to Adventure Ridge:|
- Scenic Gondola Ride Ticket is required if you are planning to visit Adventure Ridge during regular mountain operations and do not have already have an Epic Pass or Lift Ticket. Please note, the Eagle Bahn Gondola is free after 3:30pm.
- Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- Everyone participating in any Adventure Ridge activity must fill out a Liability Form. You may fill it out before you come and bring it up before you participate in the activity.

Candy Cabin at Beaver Creek
The Candy Cabin, which opened in 2014 epitomizes a truly unique Beaver Creek experience. Located at the top of the Strawberry Park Express Lift and the Upper Beaver Creek Mountain Express lift, children and adults alike can enjoy candy options from classics like Swedish Fish, Sour Worms, Warheads, Nerds, Jelly Belly’s, Root Beer Barrels, M&M’S and more, as well as locally produced artisan chocolates from 5th generation chocolatier Michael Mootz. Other popular selections include bulk candy sold by the pound and classic Pepsi products made with real cane sugar.
Not only does the Candy Cabin offer delicious treats and beautiful, sweeping views of McCoy Park (our Nordic ski and snowshoe area) and the Gore Range, it also may provide you with that much needed sugar rush to make it all the way to last chair! Stop in to the Candy Cabin today. Open daily from 10am to 3 pm upon the opening of Strawberry Park Express Lift.
Story time at the Eagle County Libraries
Too cold to hit the mountain? Take a trip to one of our local libraries for story time! There are songs, games, activities, stories and so much fun at each of the story times. And wonderful directors guiding the experience!
